Flavor Of The Week – Jack Parow

To kick off my little ‘Flavor Of The Week’ blog corner, I’m going to start with South African Zef rapper Jack Parow. I randomly discovered my buddy Jack over a year ago while surfing YouTube. He has since become a staple artist in my at-work-block-out-the-world-mix. Zef itself can be hard to define, but it’s kind of a tongue-in-cheek, white lower class style. I know, it doesn’t really sound all that appealing, but if you can get past all the fake gold and general greasiness of the Zef ‘style’, you can find a fun, lighthearted and solid genre. There’s something about Jack’s music that reminds me of being a kid. It’s simple and doesn’t feel over-produced. His songs ‘Cooler As Ekke’ and ‘Byellville’ have a warm summer-time feel. The whole image and most of the music videos have a DIY vibe that I really enjoy. Hope you like it too.
